How do you make CM Punk heel?

As Raw 1000 came to a close, WWE Champion, CM Punk, stood over a fallen Rock that he attacked mid-People’s Elbow and then delivered a GTS to. As a huge Punk mark it was kinda cool for me to see him being the last man standing in a mix that included Rock, John Cena and The Big Show. It almost made me think that WWE is starting to see Punk as a true top guy.

After the attack people were wondering if this means Punk is heel. And then the columns came out saying that no matter what Punk does, people will cheer him. I think this started when he was working as an announcer on Raw.

He was injured but they wanted to keep him in focus so they put him behind the announce table. Even though he had been heel leading up to this with the Straight Edge Society, people were loving his commentary. He moved on to being the leader of the New Nexus which kind of flopped but it lead to the Pipebomb.

The moment when Punk’s contract was about to expire and so he cut lose on Cena, John Lauranitis, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon himself. This was meant to be a heel move I guess, but people popped. Even when Punk called them out for cheering, they still loved him. He won the WWE title, left with it, As much as WWE tried to get people to hate him by saying he didn’t care about them or else he wouldn’t have left with the belt. People still loved him.

He came back and slowly faded into a face character. He was still ‘shooting’ on people but they were the definitive heels and he was a bit lighter on what he was saying, putting him in the good guy column.

As I’m writing this, we’re a couple hours away from Raw 1001. It’s been announced that CM Punk is going to explain his actions. I feel if he says anything, it will be a huge mistake.

Like I just laid out, and what many others have said, no matter what CM Punk says, he’ll be cheered. People love to hear what Punk has to say, whether it be a face promo, a heel promo, it doesn’t matter, people love to hear him speak. So how can they make the audience boo him?

He says NOTHING.

Tonight WWE promises CM Punk will explain himself. His music hits. He walks out on stage, maybe sits down like he did in the original pipebomb, but just sits there. He looks around a bit, maybe shakes his head. Then walks off.

Some people may think this is too much like Jericho’s return, but in this case Punk won’t appeal to the fans and not say anything. He won’t even tease that he’s going to say anything. He shouldn’t even have a mic in his hand. He just refuses to speak. Over the last year when people got into a feud with Punk everyone was saying how good the promos would be. Punk vs Nash, Punk vs HHH, Punk vs Jericho and now Punk vs The Rock.

And there lies your answer. People want to hear him talk. Take that away.

He comes out, wrestles, maybe interferes in a match here and there. Have him really kick the crap out of guys people love. Maybe have him go overboard putting the anaconda vice on Zack Ryder and refusing to let go, having to be pulled off by referees.

Then when people ask why, he just doesn’t answer.
