Squared Circle 39
I don’t know how Ben does it.
Usually, well before I have the strip drawn, Ben has written the script and written the post for the site where I just need to put up the comic once I get off my lazy butt and do it.
But he has something to say, some comment, even if it’s just a sentence, about every strip. Something that was going through his mind when he wrote it. Something about the business that he is much more connected to than I am.
It’s hard for me to make comments about my comics. Let alone every one. Before they even go up.
Working with Ben sometimes makes me very nervous. Not because he scares me, but because I want to make him look good. I want my art to enhance his writing and being an insecure mess I don’t know whether I’m doing my job right. There’s a time when I wouldn’t have cared but I’ve changed a bit and learned more about what it means to work WITH someone.
I also get nervous when I talk about the business on the @SquaredCircle_ twitter account. Ben actually works in wrestling. The closest I’ve been to the business is getting tweeted at by Tommy Dreamer. So a lot of the time, when I tweet, I worry that I might being saying something that is completely idiotic to those in the business and that it’ll make him look bad to be associated with such a dumb mark.
But he’s told me that a lot of people in the business are a bunch of dumb marks themselves.
So I’ll end this rambly post by saying.
Sorry, Ben.
-Mike
